Friday Forum: Censorship, Intellectual Freedom, and Social Justice: Where are We at Today?

Event Description: Joyce McIntosh will share information about the current state of censorship and challenges in the United States and lead into the ways each one of us can identify a path to advocacy in hopes of protecting access to information for all. We will share a time of questions and conversation following.

Join the conversation with our speaker:

Joyce McIntosh is the Assistant Program Director for the Freedom to Read Foundation (FTRF), an organization dedicated to First Amendment education, litigation, and advocacy. She has worked at the intersection of intellectual freedom, communication, and the First Amendment for three decades. Her background and education in journalism and library and information science have led her to work for newspapers, non-profits, and for the last two decades in libraries. She worked in a public library outside of Chicago, IL providing reference, programming, outreach, and assistive technology before joining FTRF.

In addition to her work with FTRF, Joyce has worked for the Sierra Club Mackinac Chapter (Michigan) and has participated in an anti-racism training program called White Women Fighting Racism. Joyce strives to apply her values of faith and social justice to every role, conversation, and training she is part of.

To join by video conference, you'll need to download the Zoom app on your computer or mobile device. Click on the link to join the meeting and then enter the Meeting ID number and passcode. You'll be able to see slides and video, as well as speakers and other attendees.

If you prefer to join by phone, you'll be prompted to enter the Meeting ID number and passcode. You won't be able to see the visuals or attendees, but you can view them on the meeting video recording afterward.

If you're new to Zoom and would like to use the video option, we recommend you download the app well ahead of time.
